Middlesex County, Ontario | I think that the size you are looking at is just a hair too small to be very useful. I think what you want is a Kubota L39, Kubota L48, or a Deere 110 TLB. Compared to the L35 they are 7000-8000lb instead of 6000 lb, 40-50hp instead of 35hp, dig 10' instead of 9' , load 8' instead of 7', lift 2000 lb instead of 1500 lb. The loaders stick out a little more and lift a little higher so that you can pile better.
We have a Deere 110 TLB and I have used smaller but would not want to own any smaller.
The loader uses a skidsteer quick attach and has auxiliary couplers, so we can use our skid steer attachments like pallet forks and bale spears.
The hoe also has an aux and has a single bolt mechanical quick coupler that matches the Deere 27D and Deere 35D mini excavators. I have a 36" bucket and an 18" bucket. My brother has a 27D mini excavator and has 24" and 12" buckets, we share buckets all the time and it's great to have so many bucket options. The hoe on the 110 is something between the 27D and 35D in size/capability. The hoe is more than capable of tile maintenance and installation, burying rocks, digging trenches, digging up small 4" trees, etc.
I don't believe there was a factory thumb option, but weld-on kits are available and there's a foot pedal and aux couplers.
All these smaller backhoes you have to get off the machine and walk around to switch between driving and digging positions. On this one the seats flips over and you have to get off and do the walk, but there is a toggle switch and speed lever in the side dash which lets you move the machine forward/backward from the backhoe seat position. I cannot overstate how much productivity that simple function adds. It is totally do-able to move with the toggle/lever while also reaching behind you to steer or move the loader. Imagine getting off and walking around every time you want to move forward when digging a trench like you do on some of these other smaller machines.
The 110 tractor shares many mechanical parts with the Deere 4710 tractor, but the machine was designed from the ground up to be a backhoe. The backhoe and loader frames are heavy duty and extend the length of the tractor. The hoe is removable and there is a 540 PTO and 3pt rockshaft behind it. I don't have 3pt arms for it but they do exist. I'd like to get 3pt arms for it and put a snowblower on it in winter.
When we bought this we did not have any digging equipment and thought it would be a luxury that would spend a lot of time sitting. Now it gets used all the time, but seemingly only 30 minutes at a time.
