NW Iowa | Everything here is J bunk once they are weaned or if pasture is short and fed along with the cows.
TMR rations make it easy to really dial in the feed correct in the bunk.
If that feed sits out for a few days out in the open they just don't seem to uptake it very well.
If you make them come up to get feed, you will now which ones aren't feeling well.
Your grass hay probably doesn't have high protein. So they can eat quite a bit of it.
They actually might not be able to eat enough of it... could go backwards with no momma milk protein.
That's why testing you can balance your ration better.
Cracked corn and oats won't hurt you. Just need to keep the rumen balanced.
If you could get your hands on some ground ear corn, that would be the cats ass.
They are worth gold so these days it pays to keep those light weights on the right track, | |
