| So back in 2018 or so, a poster on this site put out info showing a time line on what the Tariffs were going to do to Agriculture in this country. He used the Farm policy mistakes of the 1973,1974, and 1979 time frame. he pointed out that it would take about 7 or so years for the actions of 2017-2018 to filter through our system. he showed how we would loss our export advantage and how that would transfer to our competition.
Fast forward to today
In spite of the US raising our production from 4.3 billion bushels in 2016 to 4.6 billion bushels in 2024 our world wide exports dropped from 2.2 billion bushels to 1.7 billion bushels in the same time our competition, Brazil went from producing 114mmt to producing 170MMT adding almost 15million hectors of ground to soybean production. Brazil also increased their soybean exports from 51 mmt to 102 mmt.
IN corn the numbers are not as bad but still leave a lot to be desired production although it has been mostly flat at 15.2 BB exports have went from about 2.5bb down to 2.0bb while Brazil production has jumped from about 75 mmt to 130mmt with their exports climbing from about 1bb to 2.2bb.
and in the seven years since we have been told this is the path that happens when you pick a trade war with your best costumers we as farmers in this country have done Nothing but nothing to ready our operations for these results acting like this time it will be different.
and NOW we are heading down the road of going after our new best costumer.
The only thing many have done in preperation for this time period is whine that the Government is not giving the US farmer enough welfare.
Here is a news flash we will not get out of this problem by taking government money and using it to raise our cost of Production, at some point we will have to cut our cost of production and it will be harder the longer we try to live in a fantasy land.
