Wyoming | Well, off the top of my head, the surfaces need to be much cleaner than that. If you want to use low-temperature (ie, lead/tin or tin/copper, etc), you might use plumbing flux on the two surfaces, heat them up, and then melt off the flux to get them clean. Then I'd tin both sides before putting them together. If you need more strength in the joint without wanting to get into the "real" silver solders (which are more like brazing), you could get some "Hi-Force 44" solder, which has a higher tensile strength than plumber's solder, but doesn't require 1100F heat and borax flux like real silver solder does. |
