coast of Maine | NoDAk,asked for reliability and parts availability .Costs being secondary you could spend way way more than needed on an old style Pete with a rebuilt Cat than say three trucks that some call tupperware trucks.Its a sure call for me as not making a business out of trucking anymore would be the lesser cost unit.New doesnt mean carefree or reliable ,,maybe far from it.Tough call actually.Perhaps a place to start is who is going to do the repairs /maint..if its in your shop then I would go the economical route with out if possible lots of tech...If it is headed to a private shop ..ask the owner his thoughts for your area.I do know my low bed truck is a2000 freightliner daycab with a Detroit.It will start and run regardless unless it throws a rod.I would say it would suck as far as creature comfort hauling daily,,but occasional lowbed its cheap and reliable,if you want looks and want to wax it and bunch of lights,,big cat,18 speed,huge rears,,,,wooo wee break out the 1/4 million check book,,which works for some,,,It just doesnt here as freight rates suck in Maine. | |
