| I would either buy an older pre EGr truck or get fairly new.
I have seen some just a few years old in the low 20's with 300,00 or so on them.
Take your chances on the emissions but the newer ones seem better,.
Buy a truck 2004 or older and take your chances on wiring and rust.
Those trucks are getting cheaper.
I use to work with a guy who bought at Auction. This was pretty risky since he had health issues enough he did not look them over.
He did alright. He always figured if he got a bad one he could just put it back on another auction, and get most of his money back.
I never bought on auction but he had the right idea.
I ran a lot of trucks 3- 400,000 miles and sold them for enough to get in the next one., The plan was to run them until a major failure and sell parts.
I did sell some as usable trucks but always figured if I was hauling off the farm and had one with 900,000 on the major components I was pushing it. Where a guy running 5,000 mile s or less a year it would rot out before it wore out.
As others have said, ask your mechanic what he wants to work on.
