SW MI | I have no scientific numbers that this reply is based on, strictly gut feel. Having fed beef whole corn and a protein pellet and cracked corn and a protein pellet, I didn’t see any/much difference in rate of gain. Marbling and meat quality on the butcher table were extremely comparable/identical. However, while butchering the beef that were fed cracked corn, it seemed to me like the bone marrow and meat had a richer “corn bouquet” coming off the bandsaw.
That is the only difference I’ve noticed. I would guess and assume that the meat quality was better with the cracked corn but I did no tenderness, color or quality tests. All butcher shop assumptions. | |
