I've heard it said that "chipping" a tractor tells the engine computer it to raise the fuel pressure delivery, resulting in more hp, while "tuning" changes several different parameters of the engine performance which is easier, more balanced running engine. There have certainly been a LOT of chipped engines being used, so .....
