i have obtained a bunch of low cost flow meters. i am sure they are junk but it thought whats the harm in putting them inline of a normally used flow meter on a shuttle and see how they perform. i think we all would be surprised at how badly a name brand chemical flow meter on a tote from the local chemical retailer performs when not calibrated correctly. i also want to dissect some quality meters and maybe try and pull some data out of them into the arduino. when i find some flow meters that will work i will try and use some ball valves and relays to control electric pumps to maybe measure out some chemicals to do hot loads for the sprayer. i was hoping to initially use small premeasured poly tanks or drums to run the chemical amounts to ensure over application does not occur and could not possibly occur. will be fun to try out. maybe it wont be worth it but when i price a commercial system that does the same thing i could almost take a year off of farming and work on it for the savings in price.

these ideas have been sparked from buying a banjo flow meter with a display to monitor total amounts going into the sprayer, the meter costed about $850 and worked well the first year and failed the second year despite being taken off and stored in a climate controlled shop. then the second year buying a second one and it failing after a year. then going up to the banjo booth at a big farm show and asking what gives and being told that they are not repairable and people have different experiences with them but they typically don't last that long. that wasn't an answer that works for me so here we are.

there is also a company out there that sells a tank volume sensor for thousands of dollars that measures tank volume by the pressure of the tank. no flow meters involved. i found the sensor they use on a Chinese website for $80 and bought one. exited to experiment with that, though not exited to weld a port into the stainless tank of the sprayer. lots of possibilities out there.
