SE MN | The land is the only thing that matters. Machinery can be bought at a moments notice from any number of dealers or auction sales. Inputs are available over the counter every day. Agronomy knowledge is available for "free" if you buy inputs from a coop. If you can't do your own labor you need to find something else to do or pay fair market price for a decent employee. The land is always the controlling resource and the only thing that will last long term.
At the end of the day, the landowner can make more money than the farmer because some farmer is willing to pay that much rent. The only way to change this is to somehow increase the risk levels in grain farming so that the most aggressive bidders are driven out of a business regularly. As long as everybody gets to keep farming, there is absolutely no reason to change anything. | |
