Well (pushes up nerd glasses)... Brave isn't based on Chrome, Brave and Google Chrome are both based on the open source project Chromium. Google is largely responsible for the development of Chromium and most of the major web browsers are based on it - including Microsoft Edge. Brave is free, and open source.

You can download Chromium and use it today - the user interface feels a lot like Google Chrome, but be aware Chromium does not auto-update like other browsers.

Firefox is the only major Windows/Linux browser not based on Chromium.
