We put up several hundred acres a year of alfalfa in small squares. In the Midwest, weather is such a big factor in your profit. We can't make any money with a round baler unless it's to feed it to our own cattle. And you will have waste that you need to feed to something.

You can either spend money on labor or mechanization. At least with a machine you can park it in a shed and have access to it when you need it. No one, and I mean no one, wants to pick up hay bales anymore for cheap.
