I would find how much expected income you would earn off 200 acres of quality large squares. Rounds don’t bring enough, wouldn’t even consider that. Then I would take those expected earnings and figure how many acres of small squares I’d have to make to meet the same amount of income. Then I would make that many small squares and only if it was high enough quality to sell for horses and only if there is a horse market. I agree with Hay Hud that too often hay is grown on poor ground or odd shaped fields. You should always make the best quality product possible and efficiency plays into hay as much as any crop. If I could consistently knock down 225 corn on it I wouldn’t stop. Corn has a market every day of the week, you just have to decide which day you want to bother with it. Best of luck but I would advise against it.
