Too close to Raleigh, NC | Therein lies the problem - Ford decided to design their own injection system instead of paying Navistar for their proven design. So when the injection system started causing problems with reciprocating parts of motors then the finger-pointing started. Now, in Ford's defense, they probably would have had to tweak the Navistar fuel delivery system to meet EPA regs for light-duty vehicles anyway. So, Ford then let the first customers with the 6.0 be the guinea pigs for their new design fuel delivery system. Ever hear of pilot injection? Most 6.0s were supposed to have that turned on but it caused so many injector problems that Ford had to redesign injectors on the fly. So whose fault is a fuel-locked motor if the injector causes it? Navistar for building the mechanicals that aren't designd to run hydro-locked? Or the Ford-designed injection system? Rush to market is not the consumers friend. I know of 4 6.0s that were lemon-lawed back to the dealer.
I think alot of issues stem from the dealerships not wanting to spend the money to get good gas mechanics trained properly on diesels. Every brand has the same problem. You hear too many horror stories about dealership diesel service screw-ups from every brand. | |
