I think the biggest problem with putting a diesel in a half ton or smaller truck is that the emissions regulation's get alot tougher when the GVWRs get down below a 3/4 ton truck rating. The Jeep Liberty diesel get's only slightly better fuel mileage than it's gas counterpart because of the tight emissions that it has to meet.
