An 8 inch 12 gauge pipe 8 feet long would weigh 72 pounds. A 6 inch pipe 14 gauge would weigh 38 pounds. 12 gauge is 40% more metal than 14.
Auger makers use plenty 14 gauge when they probably should use 12. Why would you use 12 ga. on something weight sensitive?
If you want to increase the life of exhaust parts, put a raincap on it. I know it has the "agricultural" look to it.
