| Unless you buy a piece of junk maintance on them is not much. Motor, hydraulic pump, some hoses, grease, filters and fuel. You'd have to put a ton of hours on one to even think about anything in the undercarriage. Really pretty simple machines as machines go. Change the oil and filters when it needs it and keep the oil clean.
As for moving, the size he's talking about will load and haul on most any heavy gooseneck like say a 150 to 200 hp tractor would. Moving around a farm or in a small area would not be a problem. It should only weigh in the low 20's. It would take a little more of a trailer if he was going to go 100 miles down the road all the time.
Like another poster said, get it with the intention of selling it when you're done and it will never leave the farm.
Problem with leasing a machine is you have to go haul it or pay them, then it happens to rain and you're sitting there paying rent. Or you might get it and something else happens to change your schedule and you feel like you can't shut it down because the clock is ticking. Own it and you can work when you want. Park if it you need to and come back later. | |
