Hagen Brothers farms,Goodrich ND | The 80% rule of thumb does not work out that well for me. For me, I have found that charging by pressure and vent temp gets me maximum cooling with minimum high side pressure. I install enough R 134a to get the system operating, then slowly add a few ounces at a time until the vent temp stops dropping. This seems to be the "sweet spot" that gives the best cooling on a converted system with the least high side pressure and strain on the compressor.
