If you are looking at hard hose travelers, I would get the biggest diameter available which I think is 5"? It makes a HUGE difference in time to get an inch(or whatever amt) of water on. You also have to have the psi at the reel, gun, and pump to put out that much. I think 8" pipe is needed also. The setup in those pics is with 6" above ground pipe and a smaller hose(4-4.5"). We got that because it is longer for some of our bigger fields.
It will pull out about 1000-1100 feet. Depending on the psi, you can get an inch on one run in about 10-12 hrs. Shoots about 300' total. One of ours runs with a standalone pump powered by the same engine in a deere 4255 and the other(when needed) is a hale pto pump that runs off whatever tractor we use it in.
If you have the setup for a pivot, I would think that would be the way to go. These hard hose travelers are nice, but also it takes a while to get stuff done with a lot of moving pipe, hooking up, spinning the reel, etc We do have a couple of farms that Dad ran underground lines years ago and they're much easier. Just hook up to the riser and go once the pump is set up.
Cost wise, I'm not sure since we've had these a long time. I was at a potato auction this spring and they had a bunch of travelers(used) that went for 7-10K and then the pumps went for 10-13K. Somewhere in that ballpark. Not sure of the sizes though.
