Subject: RE: 15 inch wheat

Seneca Kansas 66538
The average in that particular area was all over the board because of the easter freeze. We also had 15 inch wheat that will killed and put to beans because the 15 in wheat grew so quickly and the freeze just laid the whole field flat as a pancake. The best way to start with any practice is slow. If you have a 15 in planter and know someone who has the plates or could use someones, just try a few acres and see how it works for you and use your regular practice on the rest of your acres. 15 in wheat probably will need to be sprayed with a herbicide, but the wheat seemed to weather the wet early spring well although it was sprayed with a fungicide as well. The one particular thing that everyone commented about early on was the speed of growth on this wheat, it seemed to just take off like a rocket but the late freeze really kicked it in the side also because of its height. We seeded 800,000 seeds but would try to set it higher to the 1 million plus mark.
