Subject: RE: Corn silage pricing

Greencastle, Pa.
Lucas, First we are not a dairy [not since 1996] We coustom raise dairy heifers [11 years] here in S/C Franklin Co. And yes we would pay $20/26 a ton for corn silage out of the field IF we needed it. {we don't} All the talk about the TRUE value of corn silage,ie nurtition value, dry matter, organic removeal value from soil, tonage per acre, etc, etc. in our area is MUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are TWO big reasons, two Very large dairys that BUY most of there corn silage out of the field EVERY year. When they start to contract for corn silage in July of each year that just about sets the price for the rest of this area [like it or not] and NO one is going to pay more than that unless they blew it. PS All the talk about the value of this or that reminds me of the hords of posts on THIS net about what one [and who] is willing to pay to rent corn/bean ground in the Mid-West. IT's not WHAT the TRUE worth of it is IT's what YOUR neighbor is GOING to pay so that YOU don't get it. Period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
