Quincy, IL | I think what he means is there are resistant weeds and we amplify them...btw-there's not much you can do about this and no way to know they're resistant.
Example-5 years ago you had one weed out of 10,000 that didn't die after the RUP pass. We assume it was injured, bad contact with chemical, Etc. It was actually a resistant weed and that fall it dumped a million seeds for next year. Next year these 1 or 2 stray plants turned into dozens, you spray and kill all the non-resistant plants and several resistant plants go to seed...and so on.
Eventually there's more resistant seed out there than non-resistant. Waterhemp & Pigweed show up the most because of the huge amount of seeds per plant plus their seeds can lay dormant for decades and still germinate.
This is how we "select" the resistance....wish I had a good answer for how to get rid of it. | |
