Subject: RE: Sidedressing one plugged!

Blue Earth, MN
Your situation is worse, we had 2 out of 12 rows not getting starter fertilizer...could see at the beginning and now can tell the difference in ear size...I figure probably 25% yield reduction on those rows. We contribute the fertilizer application to the check valves we have installed. They will not be there next year. Also noticed "within row" differences between plants--about 3 plants have very nice ears, the next 3 have average ears. I'm assuming it has something to do with our fertilizer piston pump. Looking at other solutions for next year. Any ideas? Thinking of going to a hydraulic driven pump.
