Subject: how to spray aphids-plane or ground rig?

West Central Iowa
How are your experiences spraying aphids with a plane? How many gallons of water per acre did you use? Looks like we may have to spray within the next week. Probably use generic Lorsban(Govern 4E). Take a look at Seth_Ia's pictures in Machinery talk forum and see my biggest fear spraying with a row gator type machine. In 2004 we had to have a few fields sprayed for aphids and are in 30 inch rows like Seth. Although the results were not quite as bad as his there were several places where the rows got run down. Of course the chem plant will never say spraying with a plane works. They say there isn't enough water volume to penetrate the canopy. The last time we sprayed with a plane I think was in 1988 for spider mites in the beans, and that seemed to work. We do our own post spraying normally but the tractor and saddle tank setup does't work too well in beans over knee high so we will have to hire it done. We have very flat ground and mostly square shaped fields so planes usually don't have too much trouble around here. What would you do?
