Woodbury county | Last year this area was extremely dry until the first week of August when we received crop-saving rains......but did not save the corn on corn yields in this area. There was a lot of corn on corn that yielded less than 25 bushels per acre and kept Federal Crop adjusters busy getting their adjusting done so farmers could at least chop the droughty corn for some feed. Have a neighbor with a field of third year corn that is planning on chopping it for feed because the potential for any yield has gone because of lack of rain. Was not much change in crop rotations in this area this past year, and after the prices have dropped to below break-even prices now, there will be even less thought of any changes in crop rotations for the coming crop year. I can remember earlier this spring an analyst commenting that farmers were mesmerized by $4.00 corn......doubt very much ifmany farmers are going to be "mesmerized" in the coming crop year. | |
