West Texas | Any kind of irrigation is better than none at all. Even in "normal" years, irrigation can ease stress times. What you need to know is how much time are you willing to devote to watering, and how much do you want to spend? If you have the bucks, but not the time, try drip irrigation. Or perhaps a small center pivot. I've seen high-value crops grown under single-span pivots. If you have loads of time, but not much money, then maybe you should try flood irrigation. If you gotta get that water going RIGHT NOW, then try a traveller. Or even hand-line sprinklers. You'll save at least one field, and maybe more. But letting your crops burn up when they don't have to is almost sinful. That's your paycheck out there, wilting in the heat.
