Agree with many above posts. Here in PA we do both on our farm. Generally the 30s do just as well as the drilled. But I can plant MUCH faster, get nicer emergence, and not run over beans when spraying. I'd do them all with the 12 row, but Dad still likes the drill.

This year will be interesting. Some of my earlier planted beans look really nice for as little rain as theyve had. Others are struggling to close the rows. Dads drilled beans have been covering the ground for some time now. Maybe the drill will pay in a dry year like this due to ground cover. We'll see in another month or two.
