Greencastle, Pa. | Same here Dave, Only our year was 2001. Very dry and no ears on any of the corn, very high amounts of smut on every stalk. By the time we were half finished chopping it the field harvester was as black as coal. After that silage was "cured" we had samples taken and checked for "toxins" Was surprised that there were none and the as fed value was not to bad. This year in a lot of Pa. what corn there is [one ft. to what ever] there are VERY few if any ears and the nutritional value is VERY poor. There's not going to be a lot of milk produced form that kind of corn silage. Glad I got out of the dairy part when I did,thirty years was enough for me!!!!!!!! Rained here this eve, one tenth inch, that brings our total here at our farm from June 14th till today [53 days] to a GRAND TOTAL of 1.75 inches. took ten [10] rains to reach that total. Here in this part ot the East the average top-soil depth is from about four inches to a foot so we don't have very good "water holding" capacity.
