Western Nebraska
If this is your first year of no-till and you are planning on only using 50 lbs I think you will be disappointed. We have done wheat back on wheat several times and the one thing we have seen over and over is you need to fertilize heavier than you think you should. There will be an awful lot of N tie-up the first year or two. We are quite a ways north and west of you and I think the 50 lbs might be about what we will use this year. It could go higher, depending on what the season looks like next spring. I would also suggest putting as much fertilizer in the band as possible. If you have this capability you will see that it gives a tremendous competitive edge to the wheat. Our seeder will band fertilizer below the seed and we try to get as much N on at planting time as possible because we don't like giving the weeds a chance at the N. When you broadcast it, every plant has an equal chance. This has been our experience.
