Killing old alfalfa field

Subject: Taking out alfalfa every year....


I plow as shallow as possible, but crown it completely. THen deep plow, rototill, or other deeper tillage method. Crowns seem to die better with less root attached. Do this in both spring and/or fall..... fall tillage works better on the kill.

(Edit: by crowning I mean cutting the crown from the taproot..... I like to do it as close to the crown as possible)
