The problem with low rates of surface applied lime is that it really doesn't fix anything except for herbicide problems.   There is simply no way to correct the pH problem without biting the bullet and applying the necessary amount of lime and thoroughly mixing it into the profile.  Anything else is a band-aid and won't do the job in areas which have bona-fide pH issues like we have here.

 

The ecolo-tiger seems to be a preferred tool for incorporating lime here.  We usually use a v ripper, sometimes with a heavy disk first, but I think the DMI would be a bit better.
