Hay Wilson in TX

Subject: Weeds Happen should be a good bumper sticker!

Little River, TX

Yes skeeters were a factor this year.

The only grass I have presently is coastal bermudagrass. I hope to sprig some Tifton 85, next spring.

There is a fellow in Lampasas with a local Eastern Gamagrass. He calles it Texas Sue or something along those lines.  I would like to put to a filter strip, to keep all the float trash out of the fields. Plant two maybe three rows where the float trash drifts in from the creek and drainage ditch with the floods.

I more than doubled my grass production after I stopped listening to TAMU's recommendations. Their methods work in East Texas and in the Brazos Bottom but not on our heavy clay, calcareous soil.

Have you ever come in contact with Calvin Trostle, District Extension Specialist.

Have you come in contact with Vivian Allen at Tech? She is a forage professor there. Really into range as well as domesticated forages.

Both are interesting people who are knowledgeable.

Hopefully January 2009 I will be swing through your country. We like to attend the NM Hay conference, and visit for a few hours with Dutch and his wife. A truly nice couple. We also spend a few days in Roswell to visit old friends as well as swing by Amarillo for some more friends.

Have a good one.
