The last 2 years We've been no-tilling peas early into old hay stands as you describe. Before pea emergence, we hit it with 32 ounces of roundup. Won't kill much alfalfa but we cut it all for hay in mid June then any re growth gets hit with roundup and banvel. Works pretty well so far for wheat the 2nd year. The pea hay -alfalfa hay production has been very good.
