Twenty years ago, a NM Extension type at Artesia, NM, threw this poorly accepted truth at me. I am afraid some university types may have taken this truth to extremes.

This is the theory from that time. Cut above the regrowth buds on the crown. Do this even when they are several inches long themselves.
Regrowth initiated from long stems requires more of the plants energy than regrwoth from the buds.

Irregardlessly try to never clip the regrowth buds.
