| I admire no-tillers and cover crop guys and I do some myself,I`ve planted wheat, rye, oregan ryegrass for cover(over the years) and just seeded about 200 acres of bin run wheat this past week. The problem I have is by the time the corn/bean harvest is done,Winter (harvest) wheat is planted,fert/lime,etc work is done the cover crop is so late that it never amounts to much in the spring! On this site you guys talk about radishes and what not which I think is great but how in the world do you plant cover crops in August or early Sept.?
In this area the landlords love the big dogs who do all the fall tillage, put down fall chemicals to keep the fields bare so they are the first in the fields with the planter in the spring(1st planted corn is always the best yield you know!)How do you compete with this?
I guess I`m a little frustrated in that I believe in "conservation" farming but it just doesn`t compete with the "normal" ways in this area.
Any comments? | |
