Subject: Re: twin row or 20"

We experimented with some 15" row corn in '06. Had about 120 acres of which maybe 10 ac was flat. We picked it with a 30" head & to our surprise the down corn was actually easier to get up than down 30" corn.

Yield wise we weren't impressed with the 15" rows. Was going to try some this year but for some reason didn't.
Neighbor had some twin row corn. Looking at it I wasn't impressed with the spacing. Most of the plants were side by side instead of staggered like I thought they would be.

If I was going to switch to ultra narrow row I would most likely go with 20". Spraying the 15s was an eyepopping experience. Our sprayer is a JD 6500 so has no suspension in the rear eliminating running crossways. Tires on it are narrow enough you can run with the rows & not have a problem. Hard to tell where the rows are in 15s, just pick one row to watch & just watch it. If you look away you're lost when you look back.
