Galahad, Alberta | Athabasca is the edge of the trees on the east side of the province, but we have somewhat of a strange land base here in Alberta. If you go to this link you can see the soil map of Alberta.

The farmland is the black and brown area in the SE quarter of the province, plus about half of the darker grey area north and northwest of that. Athabasca is at the top of the light grey area, straight north of Edmonton. But the town of La Crete, the northern most farming community in the province where the farmer who originally posted his harvest pics is from, is about an inch north of Peace River on that map, near the top of that grey finger that juts north

That whole area up there is called the peace country. Long cold winters but beautiful summers with about 20 hours of daylight. It is basically the peace river valley. Nice black soil, generally good moisture, but it is feast or famine up there. When they get a crop, it is usually a bin buster. When they get skunked, which is more often than not, they barely get seed back. It can freeze and snow any month of the year in the peace country, which makes for interesting farming.
