Have some growers that dribble 28% or starter over the top of the row in sand (I mean blow sand) and it seems to work alright. The idea behind it is that the fertilizer should be moving down through the profile that it will hit the root at the time it needs it. They feel that if they put it on 2X2 the plant would never see it. I have had guys do it both ways (dribble on top and 2X2) and it seemed to work fine.
