| I was told that the very same varieties of wheat we plant in the Midwest are capable of producing yields like these. Pioneer 25R47 produced 170+bu yields in the Pacific Northwest under ideal conditions there in research studies. Wheat breeders said that the European climate was suited for high yielding small grains. Weather conditions that favor wheat yields are mild winters, ample rainfall, and cooler temperatures during grain fill. While we can duplicate some of the management practices, we cannot duplicate the weather which is probably the single biggest factor. | |
