I have harvested wheat in England that has yielded in excess of 200 bu/ac Phil N

Me as well Phil, as I'm also an ex-colonial from the ole sod.
Lets keep things in perspective here my friend.
The UK as it is so called, when all the islands are put together is less in square miles in area than the state of Oregon.
Now this is a bit of thread creep here, but bear with me.

A 200 bu/ac yield is very very rare over there.
France and Germany are also very capable of growing this density, so is the USA.
Over on the old sod, I've known of wheat to be drilled in at 4" spaced rows and this will bump up the density.
Root structure this close will still be able to absorb sufficient nutrients even though the roots are more intertwined.
So preaching the gospel of intensive wheat growing to th ex-colonials must also be taken with a pinch of salt.

A great nation that was capable of planting a dozen men on the moon and returning them safely, over 40 yrs ago and is now reaching for Mars,
then I think that that nation has the know-how to grow wheat.

The ole sod lacks the technology that the west has and most of what they obtain comes from the west.

Rant over and sorry for the bit of thread creep here and there.
