We've used a JD1293 now for 4 years. It has knife rolls and hydraulic deck plates. I would estimate we lose less than 25# per acre. You see seeds behind the corn head and it varies depending on the conditions - variety. The knife rolls do a nice job shredding the stalks and basically just the heads are going thru the machine. For us, maintaining one head and not having to switch when going back to corn is worth it. I would think the Case head would be just as good.
