EC North Dakota | I don't call it burning corn stalks, it is my corn residue management practice. Up north here I feel we need the black ground to catch the sun in the spring to warm the soil quicker. Layers of corn stalks prevent the soil from drying in a timely manner to plant soys in the spring so my CRMP allows me to get into these fields sooner.
I also have seen the soys behind burned corn stalks look and yield better than on non burned ground. Up here I beleive it is the blacker soil that warms quicker to allow the soys to gain their potential. | |
