PSU guy..... Marvin Hall - just came to me about 10 seconds ago.
Wild grasses.... the ones I was thinking of were not downey brome. I know what that stuff is, and we have more than our fair share.... I've seen that stuff pop up like it was planted, infest a field that never had it before, but it's easy to wipe out in alfalfa. Super easy. That's my 'new' rotation idea - if I have downey brome in a field, we'll just make it alfalfa a few years.
The grasses I was thinking about are some sort of orchardgrass or bromegrass.... some sort of wild stuff. Somebody around here called the one Chinese orchardgrass, and I haven't had time to track it down to see what it really is. Makes a nice hay if you can get it early enough, but it begins to turn brown as the normal orchardgrass begins to bloom.
