Subject: Re: Glyphosate Price

Leesburg, Ohio
Just got the actual reason on the glypho shortage/prices from a close friend I trust who just got into the wholesale business. Big M makes roughly half the glypho acid in the world, and most of the other half is made by several mfgrs in downtown Beijing, where they are getting ready for the Olympics. Those mfgrs cause a major amount of pollution and ugliness in downtown Beijing. A few weeks ago, the Chinese govt realized they could not be looking that way to the outside world at Olympic time, and actually told the mfgrs to shut down immediately, and either clean up, or don't start up until next year, after the Olympics. So, half the world production went away one day this fall. Yes, the big M is still an arrogant so and so, but this deal is pretty much actual supply and demand economics at work. Bottom line: probably better get it in the shed asap. My guy thinks this will be a one-year bubble, and things will come back in line somewhat, after the Olympics.
