Central IL | I mostly look at soil temps and forecast more than the calendar. I put beans in about 3 weeks early according to Dad, usually ends up around 1st week of May.
I wonder on wheat, I don't plant until after the hessian fly free date, Oct 3rd here. Am I giving up yield by waiting? With variety selection, fungicide and insecticide options, should I be able to go earlier? More risk of freeze damage? Due to logistical reasons, mine went in on Oct 7th this year. | |
