Subject: Long Term Strip-Till

Elkhart, Illinois
I spoke with another farmer yesterday who has been strip-tilling for 14 years. It was interesting to hear of his challenges, successes and decision to put some tillage back into practice.

As expected, successes included:
good yields
improved water infiltration
less fuel useage
etc.

His challenges included:
P,K, and pH stratification
residue management

I spoke to him for over an hour about this and cannot write down the entire conversation. I have intentionally left many questions unanswered as we all operate differently in terms of rotation, soil, geography etc.

My question to everyone here is, " what challenges have you seen or expect... and how do you intend to manage them in the future?"

Regards,
Bill
