Subject: IH DT358 engine problem

North Eastern England
Hello I have a 1255xl tractor in England with a DT358 IH engine in it. I have trouble starting it sometimes. It takes at least 3 seconds before smoke appears from the stack, and can take up to 10 seconds to fire. Apart from this no problem, loads of power runs lovely. We changed all filters and lift pump no different! I found that putting a fuel additive into the filter and running it through helped alot but it must need doing again. Has anyone had this problem before? Is it a pump strip down job, I can't find any filters on the pump inlet, but I put engine oil in it once and it helped abit. You can pull the stopper out until it almost stops and push it back in and it picks up straight away. PS. It is a Bosch rotary pump. I'm baffled with this one!!!!
