Subject: Re: Crop forecast spreadsheets...old vs new

Chebanse, IL.....

Why use old crop prices? Again, I'm not sure about this, but I assume one has to look at their personal "today" situation. What situation are you in on Jan 6, 2008? Did you sell '07 crop @ all n/c prices earlier than harvest? Did you have a lot of '07 crop stored (= today's pricing oppurtunities)? If one typically stores w/unpricing, why can't you use cash prices with some fudge factor? If I'd used all new crop prices for the '07 calculator, things wouldn't look like they do. N/c prices on beans last spring were dismal. Now if you have them in storage they look much-MUCH better.

But again, I have 0.0 college economic training. Just trying to make sure I have right numbers plugged in the spreadsheets when I hear others say, "the corn/bean (choose one) numbers just don't work out for me...".
