Subject: Re: Replacing Case/IH 1083 gathering chain sprocket

We just replaced the sprockets on our 1083 last fall before start of harvest & I used a 3 jaw puller & impact wrench as well, just like I did when I redid our 1063 before that. When I replaced the sprockets I gave them a liberal coating of anti-seize. In the field I have removed them by placing a pry bar underneath on each side, losing the nut but don't remove, & giving the nut a hard rap with a brass hammer while some applies pressure up on the sprocket with the pry bars. I also made a socket for the tensioner like astoller did but a 15/16" gear wrench will also work & speed thing up comapared to a regular combination wrench.
