Subject: That's a KEY point I think we miss..

Was reviewing all the responses here and this last one is exactly what I think is wrong with us dumping what has become such huge subsidies into the ag products to liquid fuel senario.

In a resource constrained world, and that certianly appears to be what we have today, not just high energy prices, but for almost any commodity demand seems to be pushing supply. There are probably a million things we can do with corn, wheat, and beans that do not involve using them for food. But yet, we instist on not just subsidizing their use for liquid fuel, but now mandating that use. Wouldn't we all be better off to let prices fall where supply-demand lets them, let new uses, even things like cat litter be found, and go about trying to meet whatever demand exists at the market level.

Instead, we create a super-high price environment, and a government subsidy system that is necessary to sustain those prices.. There must be a better way?
